DEKA SmartXide Tetra® CO₂ / CoolPeel®
The CO₂ laser that adapts to you — gentle to deep, quick recovery to dramatic change.
You’ve probably tried good skincare. Maybe even a chemical peel or two. But if your skin is showing signs that go deeper — sun damage that’s settled in over years, lines that don’t smooth out anymore, texture changes from old acne scars, a general lack of firmness — surface treatments can only do so much. CO₂ resurfacing is one of the most effective ways to genuinely reset your skin. At REFRESH LKN, we use the DEKA SmartXide Tetra® CO₂ laser to deliver fully customizable treatments — from deeper, more transformative resurfacing to lighter, no-downtime options like CoolPeel®.
What Is the DEKA SmartXide Tetra® CO₂ Laser?
The DEKA SmartXide Tetra® is a medical-grade CO₂ laser platform that creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering your body’s natural collagen production and resurfacing damaged layers. It’s the same fundamental technology that’s been the gold standard for skin resurfacing for years — but the SmartXide Tetra® gives the provider precise control over how much energy is delivered and how deeply it reaches.
That precision is what makes this platform special. Two patients dealing with very different concerns can be treated on the same machine, with the depth, intensity, and approach calibrated to their specific skin, goals, and tolerance for recovery time. It’s not a one-setting-fits-all device — it’s a platform that adapts to you.
Deka CO₂ vs. CoolPeel® — Choosing Your Depth
Both treatments use CO₂ laser energy and both stimulate collagen production. The difference is in how aggressively the energy is delivered, how deep it reaches, and how much downtime you’re willing to invest for stronger results.
Deka CO₂ is a customizable fractional resurfacing treatment that can go deeper into the skin. It targets more advanced concerns — deeper wrinkles, acne scarring, significant sun damage, and skin laxity — by reaching further into the dermis and creating more intensive collagen remodeling. Recovery takes longer, but the structural change is more dramatic and longer-lasting.
CoolPeel® is a lighter, more superficial CO₂ treatment designed to improve tone, texture, and fine lines with minimal downtime. It delivers the unique benefits of CO₂ resurfacing — without the extended recovery traditionally associated with it. Most clients return to normal activities within a day or two.
During your consultation, we’ll talk through your skin, your goals, and your real-life schedule to figure out which approach (or which combination) is right for you.
What CO₂ Resurfacing Can Treat
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin texture issues and acne scarring
- Sun damage, brown spots, and discoloration
- Loss of firmness through collagen stimulation
- Overall dullness and signs of accumulated aging
CoolPeel® is ideal if you want noticeable improvement with minimal interruption to your routine. Deka CO₂ is the right choice when you’re ready for more dramatic correction and longer-lasting structural change.
Before, During, and After Your Treatment
Before
We start with a thorough consultation to determine the right level of treatment for your skin. In the weeks leading up to your session, you’ll want to avoid sun exposure, tanning, and self-tanners. We may recommend pausing retinoids or other active skincare ingredients several days prior. If you have a history of cold sores or pigmentation concerns, we’ll guide you on pre-treatment medications or skincare to minimize risk and optimize your results.
During
Your experience depends on the intensity of your treatment. For deeper Deka CO₂ resurfacing, we apply a topical numbing cream — and in some cases additional comfort measures — to keep you comfortable throughout. For CoolPeel®, numbing is often minimal or not required at all. You’ll feel warmth and a mild prickling sensation as the laser moves across the skin. Treatments typically take 20 to 45 minutes depending on the area and depth.
After
With CoolPeel®, expect mild redness similar to a sunburn for one to two days, with a sandpaper-like texture as your skin renews. Most clients return to normal activities quickly. With deeper Deka CO₂, recovery takes longer — redness, swelling, and peeling are typical for several days to a week. In both cases, proper aftercare and strict sun protection are essential, and your skin will continue to improve over the following weeks as collagen production builds.
Why REFRESH LKN for CO₂ Resurfacing
At REFRESH LKN, your CO₂ treatment is overseen by a board-certified nurse practitioner who personally performs the sessions — not delegated to someone with minimal training. That level of direct clinical involvement matters when we’re using medical-grade laser technology. The settings, the approach, the real-time adjustments during your session — all of it requires clinical expertise and an experienced eye.
We’re also Lake Norman’s only medspa combining advanced lasers with hormone wellness, personalized weight loss, and injectables. That matters because skin doesn’t exist in isolation. If your skin concerns are tied to hormonal shifts, nutritional gaps, or stress, we can address the whole picture rather than just resurfacing the surface. Clients come to us from Davidson, Mooresville, Huntersville, and across the greater Charlotte area for exactly that reason.
Schedule Your CoolPeel® or Deka CO₂ Consultation
Choosing a laser resurfacing treatment is a real decision, and we treat it that way. Your consultation is a one-on-one conversation with our nurse practitioner where we look at your skin together, talk honestly about what CoolPeel® or Deka CO₂ can and can’t do, and figure out whether it’s the right path forward. Sometimes we’ll suggest combining CO₂ with other treatments. Sometimes we’ll recommend starting somewhere else entirely. Either way, you’ll leave with a clear plan.
We’re located at 18067 W. Catawba Avenue, Suite 106, Cornelius, NC 28031. You can book your consultation online or call us at 980-216-8484. We’d love to see you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Deka CO₂ and CoolPeel®?
Depth and downtime. Deka CO₂ treats deeper concerns like wrinkles, acne scarring, and significant sun damage with more recovery time — typically several days to a week. CoolPeel® is a lighter, more superficial CO₂ treatment that improves tone, texture, and fine lines with only 1–2 days of mild redness.
How many treatments will I need?
CoolPeel® is often done in a series for best results — typically 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Deeper Deka CO₂ resurfacing may require fewer sessions, sometimes even just one, depending on your goals. We’ll map out a specific plan during your consultation.
Is there downtime?
CoolPeel® has minimal downtime — typically 1–2 days of mild redness and a sandpaper-like texture as your skin renews. Most clients return to work or social activities right away. Deeper Deka CO₂ treatments require more recovery — several days to a week of redness, swelling, and peeling.
When will I see results?
You’ll notice early improvement within days as your skin heals. Deeper changes — refined texture, more even tone, improved firmness — continue to develop over the following 2 to 3 months as collagen production builds.
Who is a good candidate?
Anyone looking to improve skin texture, tone, fine lines, or sun damage. The specific treatment — and depth — is customized based on your skin type, concerns, and tolerance for recovery time. During your consultation, our nurse practitioner determines the right approach for you.
Is CoolPeel® safe for darker skin tones?
CO₂ lasers can carry a higher risk of pigmentation changes in darker skin tones (typically Fitzpatrick types IV through VI), so candidacy depends on a careful in-person evaluation. During your consultation, we assess your specific skin type and history to determine whether CoolPeel® is appropriate or whether a different treatment would serve you better.
