Forever Young BBL™
Turn Back the Clock on Sun Damage and Aging Skin
You’ve been consistent with your skincare. You wear sunscreen, you moisturize, you stay on top of things. And yet, every time you catch your reflection in a certain light, there they are – brown spots that weren’t there a few years ago, a redness across your cheeks that never quite fades, a dullness that no serum seems to fix. Living near the lake means more time outside, and that sun exposure adds up faster than most people realize.
Forever Young BBL™ is a light-based anti-aging treatment that works differently than anything you’ve probably tried before. Instead of treating only the surface, BroadBand Light therapy targets skin at the cellular level – actually changing the way your skin ages over time. At REFRESH LKN, we offer this Sciton-powered photorejuvenation treatment as part of our advanced laser menu, and every session is personally performed by our board-certified nurse practitioner. No handoffs. No guesswork. Here’s everything you need to know about how it works, what it treats, and what your experience will look like.
What Is BroadBand Light Therapy?
BBL stands for BroadBand Light, and it’s made by Sciton – one of the most respected names in medical laser technology. If you’ve heard of IPL skin rejuvenation, think of BBL as its more advanced, more precise successor. Older IPL devices delivered broad pulses of light with limited control. BBL uses customizable wavelength filters, advanced cooling, and precise energy delivery so we can target exactly what your skin needs without affecting the tissue around it.
Forever Young BBL™ is a specific treatment approach within the BBL platform, designed for anti-aging and long-term skin health. What makes it remarkable? A landmark study out of Stanford University showed that regular BBL treatments actually changed gene expression in treated skin – making it behave more like younger skin at a molecular level. That’s not marketing language. That’s published research. And it’s why this treatment has become one of the most trusted non-invasive skin renewal options available today. No surgery, no needles, minimal downtime.
Skin Concerns Forever Young BBL™ Treats
Sun Damage and Age Spots
If you spend time on Lake Norman – boating, paddleboarding, sitting on a dock with a good book – your skin has been absorbing UV rays for years, even on cloudy days. That cumulative exposure shows up as brown spots, age spots, sun spots, and scattered freckling. Forever Young BBL™ is one of the most effective options for sun damage correction, breaking down excess pigment so your skin can clear it naturally.
Uneven Skin Tone and Texture
Redness, rosacea, broken capillaries, blotchy patches – these can make your complexion look tired even when you feel great. BBL addresses skin tone and texture improvement across the face, neck, chest, and hands. The light energy targets both vascular redness and pigment irregularities, giving you a more even, calm, healthy-looking appearance.
Early Signs of Aging
Fine lines, crepe-like texture, loss of that natural glow you used to take for granted – BBL treats these too. The light energy triggers your skin’s own collagen stimulation response, encouraging it to repair and rebuild from within. This makes Forever Young BBL™ both preventive and corrective. Whether you’re in your mid-30s noticing the first subtle shifts or in your 60s wanting brighter, smoother skin, this treatment meets you where you are.
How the Treatment Works
Before Your Session
Everything starts with a consultation at REFRESH LKN. We’ll look at your skin closely, talk about what’s bothering you, review your history, and determine whether BBL is the right fit. We’ll also go over pre-treatment guidelines – mainly avoiding direct sun exposure and tanning in the weeks leading up to your appointment. What matters most here is the customization. Our nurse practitioner selects specific wavelengths and filter settings based on your skin type, your concerns, and your goals. No two sessions are identical because no two clients are.
During the Treatment
The device glides across your skin, delivering pulses of light energy. Most people describe the sensation as warm with a light snapping feeling – like a tiny rubber band. It’s very tolerable. The BBL handpiece has built-in cooling that keeps the surface of your skin comfortable throughout. We can treat the full face, neck, décolleté, and hands depending on where your concerns are. Sessions typically take about 20 to 30 minutes, making it easy to fit into a lunch break or a busy afternoon.
After Your Session
You might notice some mild warmth or pinkness right after – similar to a light sunburn. This fades quickly for most people. Here’s the part that surprises some clients: brown spots and freckles may actually darken temporarily before they flake away over the next week or so. That’s completely normal and expected. It means the treatment is working exactly as it should. Most clients head right back to their regular activities the same day.

Results and Collagen Benefits
Many clients notice a visible difference after their very first session – clearer, brighter skin with less pigmentation and redness. But the real results come with consistency. Forever Young BBL™ is designed as a collagen stimulation treatment that builds on itself over time. Each session triggers new collagen production beneath the surface, which means firmer, smoother, more youthful glowing skin that continues to improve in the weeks following treatment.
A typical plan starts with two to four initial sessions spaced a few weeks apart, followed by one to two maintenance sessions per year. There’s a reason this treatment approach is called “Forever Young” – it’s a long-term strategy for aging well, not a one-and-done quick fix. The results compound over time, especially when you pair treatments with solid daily skincare and consistent sun protection. Clients who stick with their annual sessions often tell us their skin looks better at 50 than it did at 40. That’s not an exaggeration.
Why Clients Choose REFRESH LKN
Not every clinic in the Charlotte metro area invests in Sciton technology. It’s a premium platform, and it requires experienced hands to get the best results. At REFRESH LKN Medical Aesthetics and Wellness, our board-certified nurse practitioner personally performs every BBL treatment. She’s not supervising from another room – she’s the one holding the handpiece, reading your skin in real time, and adjusting settings as needed. That matters.
We’re a boutique wellness and aesthetic clinic in Cornelius, not a high-volume assembly line. Clients from Huntersville, Davidson, Mooresville, and across the Lake Norman area come to us because they want someone who sees the whole picture – not just one brown spot or one concern, but their overall skin health. Forever Young BBL™ also pairs beautifully with other treatments we offer, including CoolPeel® CO2 laser sessions, chemical peels, and RF microneedling for skin resurfacing in Cornelius, NC that addresses texture, tone, and firmness together. We’ll help you build a plan that makes sense for your skin and your life.
Schedule Your Consultation
If you’ve been noticing changes in your skin that creams and serums can’t seem to touch, a Forever Young BBL™ consultation is a great next step. We’ll sit down together, look at your skin, talk through your goals, and figure out whether BBL – on its own or as part of a larger plan – is right for you. No pressure. Just honest, expert guidance from someone who does this every single day.
You can Book Appointment online or call us at 980-216-8484. We’re located at 18067 W. Catawba Avenue, Suite 106, Cornelius, NC – right in the heart of the Lake Norman community. We look forward to meeting you.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
If your skin is starting to show the effects of sun exposure—brown spots, redness, uneven tone, or that overall “dull” look—IPL is one of the most effective ways to reset it. Especially after years of Lake Norman summers, it’s common for pigment and vascular changes to surface in ways that skincare alone just can’t correct.
IPL uses targeted pulses of light to break up unwanted pigment and reduce redness beneath the skin’s surface. Over time, this helps clear sun damage, even out skin tone, and restore a brighter, more uniform complexion. It’s not about peeling or resurfacing—it’s about correcting what’s underneath so your skin looks clearer and healthier on top.
This treatment is ideal for sun spots, age spots, redness, broken capillaries, and overall discoloration on the face, chest, and neck. The result is skin that looks more even, more radiant, and more like itself again.
Before Your IPL Treatment
Before treatment, we’ll evaluate your skin to ensure IPL is the right fit for your concerns and skin type. It’s important to avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 1–2 weeks prior, as IPL targets pigment and works best when your natural skin tone is not recently tanned.
You’ll also want to avoid active skincare ingredients like retinoids or exfoliating acids for several days beforehand. Come to your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin. If you have a history of melasma or are prone to pigmentation, we’ll guide you on how to prep your skin appropriately for the best outcome.
During & After Treatment
IPL treatments are performed in-office and typically take about 20–30 minutes, depending on the area. We apply a cooling gel to the skin, and while no numbing is usually required, the treatment is very tolerable—most clients describe it as a quick snapping sensation, like a rubber band against the skin.
After treatment, you may notice mild redness or warmth, similar to a light sunburn, which usually resolves within a few hours. Pigmented spots will temporarily darken over the next few days before gradually flaking off or fading. This is a normal and expected part of the process.
There’s little to no downtime, but sun protection is essential. You’ll want to wear SPF daily and avoid direct sun exposure as your skin heals. Over the next 1–2 weeks, your skin will appear clearer, brighter, and more even in tone. A series of treatments is typically recommended for optimal results.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Forever Young BBL™ sessions will I need?
That depends on your skin’s condition and what you’re hoping to achieve. Most clients start with a series of two to four treatments, then transition to one or two maintenance sessions annually. We’ll map out a recommendation during your consultation based on what we see.
Is Forever Young BBL™ safe for all skin types?
BBL works best on lighter to medium skin tones. Darker skin types carry a higher risk of pigment changes with light-based treatments, so candidacy is something we assess carefully during your consultation. We’ll always be straightforward about whether this is the right option for you.
Can I combine BBL with other treatments at REFRESH LKN?
Absolutely, and many of our clients do. Forever Young BBL™ pairs well with CoolPeel® for deeper resurfacing, chemical peels for exfoliation, or SkinPen® microneedling for texture refinement. We’ll space treatments appropriately so your skin has time to respond and heal between sessions.
How much does Forever Young BBL™ cost?
Pricing depends on the treatment area and whether you’re booking a single session or a package series. We’re happy to go over all pricing details during your consultation so there are no surprises. We also offer package options that make maintenance sessions more affordable.
How far in advance should I schedule my appointment?
We recommend booking at least one to two weeks ahead, especially during spring and summer when demand picks up. If you’re planning BBL before a special event, give yourself about three to four weeks so your skin has time to fully clear and settle.
When should I avoid scheduling a Forever Young BBL™ treatment?
You’ll want to avoid BBL if you have a recent tan, active sunburn, or have been using self-tanner within the past two weeks. Certain medications like antibiotics or retinoids may also require a pause. Pregnancy is another time we’d hold off. We’ll review all of this before your first session.
How is IPL different from a laser?
IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target multiple concerns like pigment and redness at once, while lasers are typically more targeted to a specific issue. IPL is great for overall skin tone correction.
Does it hurt?
Most clients tolerate IPL very well. It feels like a quick snap of heat against the skin, but it’s fast and manageable without numbing.
How many treatments will I need?
Most clients benefit from a series of 3–4 treatments spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions as needed.
When will I see results?
You’ll start to notice improvement within a week, with continued clearing and brightening over the next couple of weeks.
Is there downtime?
Minimal. You may have some redness and temporary darkening of pigment, but most people return to normal activities the same day.
At REFRESH LKN, IPL is often a cornerstone treatment for restoring clarity and brightness to the skin—especially when sun damage and uneven tone are standing between you and that refreshed, healthy glow.
