What to Expect During Treatment

Before Your First Session

Preparation is simple. Shave the treatment area about 24 hours before your appointment – this allows the laser to target the follicle beneath the surface without wasting energy on surface hair. For several weeks beforehand, avoid waxing, tweezing, or plucking, since those methods remove the root that the laser needs to target. You’ll also want to stay out of direct sun exposure and skip self-tanners in the area being treated.

When you arrive at our Cornelius location, we’ll do a quick skin assessment and walk you through what to expect. No numbing cream is usually needed, thanks to Diolaze®’s cooling technology.

During Your Diolaze® Session

Most clients describe the sensation as a warm snap against the skin, immediately followed by a cooling relief from the sapphire tip. It’s very tolerable. Treatment time depends entirely on the area – an upper lip might take five minutes, while full legs could take 30 minutes or a bit more. You’ll be in one of our comfortable treatment suites the entire time, with your practitioner guiding the handpiece across the treatment area with care and precision.

After Treatment and Between Sessions

You might notice some mild redness or warmth right after your session, similar to a light sunburn. This typically fades within a few hours. Over the next one to three weeks, treated hairs will gradually shed – this is a good sign. It means the follicles were effectively targeted.

Sessions are spaced four to six weeks apart to catch new hairs as they enter their active growth cycle. Most clients in the Lake Norman area complete four to six sessions for their best results, though some areas – particularly hormonal zones like the chin or bikini – may benefit from a couple of additional treatments.
